Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma has promised round-the-clock water facilities and a flood-free city in the election manifesto for the upcoming GMC polls.

Sarma released the manifesto on Monday where he promised to provide water connection to 500 to 8000 households from June in Guwahati.

While speaking to the media over the same, the Chief Minister stated that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded Guwahati water supply project is ready to provide water facilities to households.

''The construction work of 1000 bedded 'Pragjyotishpur medical college' is going on. The government will provide 60 hospitals in 60 wards,'' he added.

He further said that the state government has taken various initiatives, including de-siltation of drains and river channels using modern technology to make the city flood-free.

Under the project Jyoti Scheme, at least 10,000 new street lights will be installed across Guwahati city, he said.

Sarma further informed that a survey is underway for a proposed ropeway link between Khanapara to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at Borjhar.

Sarma further informed that the Government is mulling a 'Metrolite' train service for Guwahati. A cable-car network covering 25 km is also under consideration, he said. Those present on the occasion included State party president Bhabesh Kalita, GMDA Minister Ashok Singhal, MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharjya, AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, and MPs Dilip Saikia, Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Pallab Lochan Das, and Pabitra Margherita.
